MARIETTA, GA, July 7, 2009—J. Mish, a high-fashion broadloom manufacturer and Wools of New Zealand brand partner, is adding to its line of wool products and emphasizing its commitment to sustainability by introducing Natural Performance Cushion, made of 100 percent wool, including some repurposed wool waste. This pad closes the loop by recycling a renewable resource into a product carrying all of wool’s natural benefits. Made in the U.S., Natural Performance Cushion is a needlepunch/nonwoven product that is sustainable and LEED compliant, according to Bob Van Order, executive vice president of J. Mish. The cushion has outstanding performance and environmental benefits. “It absorbs VOCs from the air, it has good thermal and sound insulation properties and helps to stabilize humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture,” Van Order says. This wool cushion is also naturally fire resistant and biodegradable as well as crush-resistant. In addition to having an environmental story, Natural Performance Cushion is a high-end product that appeals to a luxury-minded customer. “If the consumer gets a chance to make a choice and is told about the performance and environmental features, they will choose the better product,” Van Order says. “And it allows J. Mish to use something that might be thrown away and make a high quality, sustainable product that dovetails with our carpet,” he points out. Available in two weights—24 oz. and 36 oz.—Natural Performance Cushion is made with some virgin, undyed wool to maintain color consistency. The cushion wholesales at $6.50 to $8.00 per square yard.
