ATLANTA, GEORGIA, June 8, 2006—“Color science is the key to a successful
future”, according to Wes Connelly, North American Area Manager for Wools of New Zealand, which
is precisely why the company has invested in the latest Spectrophotometer from Datacolor. The
Spectraflash® installation allows high-resolution color measurement and ensures
excellent repeatability—vital requirements in the color-critical environment of carpet and rug
development.
The Spectraflash® equipment will be housed in
Wools of New Zealand’s International Development Center in Ilkley, England. The investment
complements the superb technical facility available at Ilkley and underlines the critical link between
creativity and state-of-the-art technology. The MTuft Modra machine, a unique concept in tufted carpet
development, was installed a year ago at the Development Center and has been utilized extensively by
the carpet industry, both in the U.S. and abroad. The equipment allows a multitude of textures
to be produced using standard needles, ensuring that the samples are technically representative of
broadloom tufted carpets.
In line with the focus on color and endorsed by the success of
the 2007 color forecast, which was on display at Surfaces, Wools of New Zealand is building a color
bank at Ilkley to create what will probably become the world’s most comprehensive color sampling
service. The wool yarn archive is currently being extended with an additional 14,000 shades,
bringing the total to 20,000 plus. These are all being scanned into the Datacolor
Spectraflash® system to offer carpet and rug manufacturers greater access to an
increased Kibby pegboard service and color matching program.
