MARBLE HILL, GA, February 1, 2009—In October 2008, Wools of New Zealand was purchased by Wool Partners International—a newly established integrated strong wool procurement and marketing company.

Wools of New Zealand is a logical fit within this new entity. Its international network of New Zealand wool users and vast intellectual property will continue to be an essential part of the value program for premium carpets and rugs.

Wool Partners has ambitious plans to rejuvenate the New Zealand strong wool industry. Its vision is to:

  • be the world’s principal supplier of strong wool
  • be the world’s principal channel to market for strong wool
  • build the world’s most recognized and trusted strong wool brand

Wool Partners owns New Zealand’s largest wool handling facility and has the largest wool-dedicated procurement team dealing directly with wool growers.  The company also has its own wool trading division and will establish strategic partnerships with others in the supply chain to achieve a truly integrated pipeline from farm to floor.

A genuine farm-floor approach will realize significant benefits in terms of fiber integrity and ultimately improve returns for all participants, which is essential to maintain a sustainable model that can plan and invest for a prosperous future.  Overriding this is a brand marketing philosophy that will drive the development of sophisticated market support packages for strong wool users globally.

Iain Abercrombie has been appointed Chief Executive of Wool Partners International.  Abercrombie brings significant international marketing and business development experience along with a fresh perspective on what is a very established trade.

“The market landscape has changed; increasing globalization and fragmented, complex supply chains have meant that product integrity has come under greater scrutiny,” says Abercrombie.  “Green is the new black and New Zealand strong wool, being a rapidly renewable natural fiber and by-product of the meat industry, is ideally placed to capitalize on this trend.  We see a huge opportunity to re-introduce wool as a luxury fiber to a changing world, and to do this requires a new approach—a genuine partnership approach.  We are excited about the untapped potential.”
